Biryani Recipe using Seeraga samba rice

Seeraga samba biryani (chicken / mutton) 

Ingredients –

  • 2 cups Seeraga samba rice
  • 500g chicken or mutton, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
  • 1/4 cup mint leaves
  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves
  • 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
  • Whole spices (cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, bay leaves)
  • Ghee or oil
  • Salt to taste

For marination –

  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon biryani masala powder (optional)
  • Juice of 1 lemon

Steps to follow –

  1. Wash the rice and soak it in water for about 30 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. Marinate the chicken or mutton pieces with red chili powder, turmeric powder, biryani masala (if using), lemon juice, and salt. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
